Torque

Torque is a very common term used in Physics. It is demonstrated in various activities, such as the see saw, or changing a tire. The key thing about torque is that the more distance between the force and the object, the more torque you will get. Also it is good to obtain a 90 degree angle for torque.

In pool torque is used to spin the ball in various ways. There are several different shots that one can use. When a pool player hits the cue ball, that ball does one of two things. What the cue ball’s initial reaction is depends where the cue stick made contact with the ball. If the cue ball is hit on center, the ball starts to slide. After the slide has stopped the ball rolls normally. How far the ball slides also depends on how hard is the ball hit with the stick. If the ball is hit hard, it will slide for a longer time before it starts to roll. If the ball is hit very lightly it will slide only for a short period time before it starts to roll.

If the ball is hit not on center but below the center, the ball will rotate backward. This occurs because the ball starts to roll backwards as a result of the below center point of impact. In collisions, if the cue ball hits another ball off center, the ball that was hit will move between the centers of the two balls.
