The history of billiards can not be traced 100 % accurately but it is believed that it originated in Europe in the 1300s. It was played at first by kings, queens, and the aristocracy. Some historians believed that billiards evolved from an outdoor game called croquet that is played on grass. While the origin is a toss up between France and ancient Egypt, the name billiards is definitely French. Billart is a French word that means stick.

Pool tables were built with green cloth to resemble the color of grass. Pool evolved into different variations. A gentleman named Captain Mingaud developed the cue stick. He spent hours playing billiards. As a result of playing so much, he came to the conclusion that by making the tip round of the cue stick, he could have more control of the ball. Later, Jack Carr developed the chalk was rubbed on the end. This prevented the shine was present after many hours of playing. Eventually, billiards evolved into what it is today. A friendly game of pool.
