How long is the bowling lane?
The lane is approximately 60 feet (18.29 m) long.
Do they place oil on the lane?
The answer to this question is yes. The alley owners place a small amount of oil on the lanes to prevent friction from stopping the ball before it hits the pin. Unfortunately the oil is not laid on evenly. The amount of oil at the top of the lane is much higher then it is by the pin end. There is only about a three pt difference in the oil densities at the top and end of the lane, but that small amount can cause the ball to hook more gradually.
Is the lane perfectly even?
No, the lane is not perfectly even. Although the margin of difference is only 4 millimeters, this can affect the ball path.
